On Saturday, students from Albright College hosted the Divine Fashion Show. Organizer Starlene Williams, a fashion designer and senior at Albright, said she chose the name Divine to celebrate the creations of her fellow designers.
To the cheers and cries of “yaas”, the glamorous models paraded the runway at Albright’s Science Field.
It wasn’t just fashion for the Albright students who gathered on Saturday night, but live music and performances, original rap songs to Irish dancer Haylee Kirk. I had the chance to chat with some of the designer students and do some Q&A with them:
Starlene Williams, senior
Where do you come from? Reading
What inspires you? Everything inspires me. What I see on social networks, in the streets, in celebrities, in nature. We can take inspiration from everywhere we look.
Who is your personal style icon? I really love Rihanna and Zendaya styles.
If you could attack someone in the world’s wardrobe, who would it belong to? Probably Ariana Grande.
What statement did you want to make with your designs tonight? I wanted people to know that the models were both comfortable and confident in their appearance. They were all meant to symbolize the same thing of self-confidence and self-expression.
What three words best describe your creations? Street, chic and comfortable.
What are your plans after you graduate? I would love to open my own store and sell products that I think everyone could target and feel comfortable with.
Tshedup Lama, junior
Where do you come from? Nepal, but I grew up in Queens, New York
What inspires you? Much of my collection is based on works of art. Try something new. Since our fashion industry is now heading towards sustainability, I am upcycling now. My brand is called Unfinished by Dupos. (His nickname since childhood)
Who is your personal style icon? I would say Bluboy.
If you could attack someone in the world’s wardrobe, who would it belong to? Bloody Osiris
What statement did you want to make with your designs tonight? I fell in love with men’s fashion. It’s a mix of art and street styles inspired by New York’s diverse and unique vibe.
What three words best describe your creations? Rowdy, artistic and fun.
What are your plans after you graduate? My long term goal is to build my own brand, but after graduation I would like to start working in New York or Los Angeles.
Katelyn Schweitzer, freshman

What inspires you: My love for bright and bold colors.

What statement did you want to make with your designs tonight? That you shouldn’t be afraid to wear something bold.
What three words best describe your creations? Colorful, creative and motivating.
What are your plans after you graduate? I want to end up in New York and have my own business and things.
Quentin Menefee, senior
Where do you come from? Philadelphia cream
What inspires you? My personal style, mix of street and luxury, and I also want to send messages through my clothes.
Who is your personal style icon? Kerby Jean-Raymond.
If you could attack someone in the world’s wardrobe, who would it belong to? Probably A $ AP Rocky.
What statement did you want to make with your designs tonight? I was just trying to talk about the importance of mental health, especially when everyone’s on the inside, and especially when men’s mental health isn’t taken seriously. I also wanted to show how there can be beauty in destruction.
What three words best describe your creations? Bold, beautiful and distressed.
What are your plans after you graduate? I hope to become a creative director of a street or luxury business, then eventually I want to create my own brand and have it become a global name.

What inspires you? With the struggles that happened in 2020, I’m using grays and yellows to incorporate how gray 2020 was and how bright 2021 will be.

What statement did you want to make with your designs tonight? To be just you and be bold, be cheerful.
What three words best describe your creations? Fun, adventurous and unique.
What are your plans after you graduate? I plan to start my own lingerie and swimwear brand, and hope to have a store and be able to visually present my work.
