Informa Markets Global Licensing Group has announced the extension of its License This! program, which is expected to make its inaugural debut in the US market at Licensing Expo Virtual in addition to returning to Brand Licensing Europe for the 12th consecutive year.
Thanks to the expanded global initiative, the two events, produced in partnership with the industry association Licensing International, will offer selected illustrators, designers, animators and product inventors the opportunity to present their concepts online in front of a panel of expert judges and an audience of manufacturers, retailers and brand owners for the chance to win a one-on-one consultation with jury members and regional competition sponsor, a free booth at an upcoming Global Licensing trade fair Group plus one year membership in Licensing International and one year membership in Products of Change Group.
“Discovery and creativity are the pillars of the Brand Licensing Europe and Licensing Expo, both of which are fundamental to the License This program! program, ”says Anna Knight, Vice President, Licensing, Informa Markets. “Our goal with the competition is to bring new artists, illustrators and product inventors into the industry on a global scale by providing once in a lifetime access to mark their place in the licenses the industry and I look forward to this year’s list of creatives.
Entries for the free competition are open to the Brand Licensing Europe and Licensing Expo communities.
The competition within each region will include the following three categories:
- License this! Character and animation;
- License this! Brand and design; and
- License this! Inventions and product innovations.
Both the Character & Animation and Brand & Design categories are for unlicensed brands and properties looking to use the Platform to obtain a licensing agreement or agency representation. Judges are looking for new creative concepts that have the potential to span multiple product categories. Typically, applicants are focused on illustrator, editing, or animation.
The Inventions and Product Innovation category, supported by partner InventHelp in the US and Mojo Nation in Europe, is for tangible product inventions that are patented or patent pending or innovative product designs that would be licensed, either through in-bound (i.e. putting a character on it to enhance it) or sent to a manufacturer (i.e. a portable item licensed from a manufacturer of inventor’s mass). Judging is based on the uniqueness of the product’s design of the invention, the product’s branding ability and the presentation and pitch of the submission video. All three categories take sustainability into account during the judging process.
The Virtual Edition of Licensing Expo will be chaired by Warren Schorr, Vice President, Business Development and Global Licensing, Crayola.
“Licensing is an extremely powerful tool that businesses use to extend the reach of their brand in the lives of consumers,” says Schorr. “Licensed products can often inject innovation, creativity and personality into product lines of all categories. It is an honor for me to chair the jury and help select License This! participants navigate the exciting world of brand licensing and new product development.
Licensing Expo Virtual Edition is sponsored by Westend Software Licensing Software Solution and partners with InventHelp for the Inventions and Product Innovation category, leveraging their extensive expertise in the invention process.
“InventHelp is pleased to announce the continuation of its partnership with Licensing Expo, which has provided the inventor community with a unique opportunity to present their inventions to decision makers from such vast brands and industries,” InventHelp said in a statement. “The original Pitch The Brands program has been well received since its introduction to the US market in 2018 and we are delighted to merge this competition with License This! to develop and elevate the program.
