Prince William Says ‘Time For A Change Has Come’ As He Lifts A Battle Cry To ‘Unleash Invention’ | Royal | New

The Duke of Cambridge, 39, urged people to take “decisive action” on climate change in an article co-authored with former New York mayor and former US presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, 79.

The duo, who wrote for USA Today, compared the current struggle to curb climate change to the space race of the 1960s.

The prince and ex-politician said: “An hour of change and challenge is upon us again, but this time the question is not whether we can reach the moon.

“It’s about whether we can save Earth.”

Prince William, who helped create the Earthshot Prize, also explained that his most recent venture had support from the Bezos Earth Fund, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Jack Ma Foundation and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.

The Duke of Cambridge and Mr Bloomberg then called on the world to channel its entrepreneurial spirit and “unleash” new inventions to deal with the crisis.

“This is a new call to action: unleash and support a new generation of inventions, innovation and entrepreneurship driven by a shared sense of urgency to face the current crisis and the optimism that l ‘humanity can achieve seemingly insurmountable goals,’ they wrote.

The £ 50million Earthshot Prize, launched by the Duke of Cambridge in September, aims to promote solutions, ideas and technologies that will ‘fix the planet’.

The award will run from 2021 until the end of the decade.

Each winner will receive £ 1million to fund their proposed solution.

In 2020, he decides to go further by throwing his hat in the ring for the American presidency.

Bloomberg, who was at this point a Democrat, finished a distant fourth behind Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

After his defeat, Bloomberg turned over £ 77.2million to Mr Biden’s campaign trail in a bid to defeat then-President Donald Trump.

Earlier this year, he was also appointed United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions.
